Check list and suggestions for prevention
1 - Change water in birdbaths at least once a week
2 - Check for inverted garbage can covers as these fill with water each time it rains
3 - Drill some half-inch holes in the bottom of garbage cans so that they don't hold water
4 - Swimming poll covers: An inflatable pillow when installed properly [pool is topped off by slipping hose under cover] leaves no moat around pillow for water to collect
5 - Any discarded tires in back of garage should be removed from premises or brought inside
6 - Gutters that don't drain are perfect breeding places -unplug leaders so that water flushes through
7 - Remove any other items that could contain stagnant water
If everyone performs the overall tasks habitually [at least weekly], we will be helping to control the West Nile Virus.
